Therapeutic Approach
I draw on CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy and EMDR, tailoring the approach to each person rather than adhering to a fixed protocol. My approach combines evidence-based methods with experiential work informed by current research into emotional learning (and unlearning), interpersonal neurobiology, and the therapeutic processes consistently linked to lasting change.
The emotional, cognitive, and behavioural difficulties that bring people to therapy are rarely random or irrational. They usually make sense when we understand the life experiences, relationships and meanings that shaped them. Even patterns that cause distress today often began as adaptive ways of coping, protecting yourself, or making sense of the world.
Rather than treating symptoms as problems to eliminate, I work with you to understand how they developed — often as coherent, historically adaptive responses. By understanding and reconnecting with the deeper emotional learning behind your current experience, we open up space for change that's meaningful and lasting, not just symptom management.
A deep respect for human diversity underpins my work. I take a neurodiversity-affirming and gender-affirming approach, recognising that differences in thinking, learning, identity and experience contribute to the richness of humanity.
Above all, I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation this work rests on. Feeling genuinely understood, safe and supported is what makes deeper exploration — and real change — possible.
