Dr. Janet Maxwell
Psychological Therapy and Assessment
Therapeutic Approach
A deep respect for human diversity underpins my work. I take a neurodiversity-affirming and gender-affirming approach, recognising that differences in thinking, learning, identity and experience are valuable and contribute to the richness of humanity.
Drawing upon evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, therapy is tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

About
I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 17 years experience working across private practice, public mental health, clinical research, and hospital settings.
I offer face to face appointments in Eltham and telehealth appointments Australia-wide.
I enjoy helping adults achieve a deep and compassionate understanding of themselves, their needs, and what helps them thrive in the world.
Individual Therapy
Working with adults (18+), I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy and EMDR. Therapy is tailored to each individual, integrating contemporary research into emotional learning, neuroscience and the processes that support enduring change. Creating an environment in which you feel genuinely understood, safe and supported provides the foundation for this work.

Supervision
As a Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor Janet offers supervision to registered psychologists, clinical psychology registrars, provisional psychologists and other mental health clinicians working in both public and private settings.
Supervision provides a reflective and supportive space to strengthen clinical skills, develop confidence, navigate complex presentations and promote sustainable, high quality and ethical practice.
Assessment
Comprehensive psychological assessment is available for adults, including adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment.
Assessment is conducted within a neurodiversity-affirming and gender-affirming framework, recognising that differences in thinking, learning and experiencing the world are a natural part of human diversity.
